Meet your Engagement Photographer
1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.
Hi, my name is Andy. From the verse above you can safely assume I am a follower of Christ. Before we get into that, let me tell you how I got here as a photographer.
In my paternal family, the creative arts runs deep. Like my father and his father, I became a guitarist. For years on end I played in numerous bands, and played various venues and my band would be the opening act for some big artist, such as Puddle Of Mudd to name one. However what most don’t know is that in a band you need to be multifaceted. In my last band, I took on the responsibility of creating all the promotional content such as flyers, press-kit, YouTube Videos, and at the time the new and evolving Instagram.
Eventually the band phase came to an end but I was left with an empty void to create art. Aside from all my music equipment, I had a DSLR Camera. The one I used to create media for my band. I started off right where I left… directly in the middle of not-a-clue avenue. I eventually began to attend the University of YouTube. Parking is always free! With what little I tucked away in my brain I began to photograph people. By the way, this an art form my father and grandfather also dabbled in and it couldn’t be anymore cliche from “chip off the old block’.
Once I started to get requests to photograph people or events, I knew it was time to take real action. I started really studying and taking an understanding of the new art that would serve its purpose and God’s design. I began taking education courses from local workshops and eventually started to learn under the methods of the highly sought out photography group Lin & Jirsa.
I still believe in learning and I will continue to keep that a priority. That’s because I believe this is my calling. I understand the light and how to achieve the look and feel that can rival long-time photographers.
“You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.” - Ansel Adams
I love photography so much, and it’s rare Im seen without my camera. In fact when I’m not on assignment I can be found volunteering as the lead photographer at my church, BeachCities Community Church.
